Human sacrificing is the most barbaric aspect of the Aztec rituals. They choose to do this because they thought it was the way to ensure the sun would continue to come up and the rain would nourish the earth. Aztec gods would sacrifice each other to keep the sun rotating. Aztec people would sacrifice children to repay the rain gods for nourishing their crops. The Aztecs believed in this type of practice on a much higher level than others. They are well known for the re-consecration of the Great Pyramid of Tenochtitlan in 1487. Over four days, the 8th rule Ahuitzotl reported that 80,400 prisoners were sacrificed. Some Aztec people considered human sacrificing an honor to the gods.
